VEG FOR BREAKFAST?

Do all babies love porridge? Teddy seems to anyway, and so do I, so it's win win at breakfast time for us. I see it as a way to get more milk and vitamins into us and, as the ways of varying it up are endless, it's a good way to expose Teddy to different flavours. We've had it with all different fruits, favourites being banana (obv, babies are obsessed) blueberries and coconut and cocoa and orange zest (thanks Jamie O Family Superfoods, that one's a banger) but I've taken a new route now, adding veg instead of fruit in order to make Teddy realise that breakfast doesn't have to be sweet.
So cue carrot porridge. Think savoury carrot cake before it's baked. No don't think that. Don't want to put you off with images of raw egg.
So for a large portion that you intend to share with baby, mix half a grated carrot with your porridge oats, then add a pinch of anything in your spice cupboard that looks carrot cakey, e.g. Cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves.
Add your milk of choice and cook as normal. You could add raisins before cooking but I left them out as I didn't want it to be sweet.
Serve with a dollop of almond or peanut butter, more grated carrot and some yoghurt for extra protein and calcium. If you need it sweeter you could always add some maple syrup to yours.
Devour together whilst chatting (usually a one way affair) about what you're going to be up to that day. (In my house, that usually goes along the lines of, walk dog, wash dog, what does a dog say? Quack quack. No...)
Next on my list to try is beetroot porridge. I'll work out whether it's nicer grated in raw or roasted and puréed then added to the oats..... I'll let you know!

No spoon needed. Fistfuls suffice.
